Write a song

Some years ago, I was writing a lot more music than I do today (hopefully that will change soon). At one point, I had been reading Psalm 92 and starting writing a melody for it.

What struck me about the Psalm was it’s opening line of how good it is to give thanks to the Lord and to sing praises to Him. Psalm 100 says that praise and thanksgiving are how we are to approach God and enter His Presence. This seems really appropriate to me. Complaining doesn’t make so much sense to me.

Then, I love how the Psalmist talks about book-ending your day with proclamations of God’s unfailing love and faithfulness. It seems to me that keeping my focus on His goodness will help to magnify it for my sake. I can’t make Him any better that He is, but, I need to remind myself of these truths all day long.

Psalm 92
1 It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praises to the Most High.
2 It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning,
your faithfulness in the evening
