That’s my hero

heroAs a child I remember seeing the movie King of Kings. I was fascinated by Jesus and truly held him in higher esteem than any other personality I had encountered. He healed the sick, spoke with profound wisdom and suffered a brutal death only to overcome death itself by rising from the grave.

Today, I have a much more intimate relationship with the One who lives and reigns at the right hand of the Father. When I was in deep trouble, He rescued me. It’s still pretty amazing to me how turning my life’s attention to Him resulted in an adventure I could have never written for myself. I’ve seen Him heal friends after a simple prayer. There are addicts today that are walking in total freedom because He is the one who sets the captives free. There are more stories to tell than space to write them.

Somehow, Jesus has been reduced to merely a good teacher by many. Despite the evidence of transformed lives, people still reject the loving arms of God. Now that I’ve tasted and seen for myself just a glimpse of how very good He is I can’t help but give Him glory. I’m compelled by His love to love others. That in itself is a miracle because when we’re really honest with ourselves, we know that we tend towards being selfish before being selfless. Call on Him and He will save you.

Psalm 50:15

Then call on me when you are in trouble,
and I will rescue you,
and you will give me glory.”

Here’s a song I wrote in the 80s called That’s My Hero.
