My father had the lyrics to hundreds of songs written out by hand or typed and organized into bundles of what I remember to be photo albums. There were some songs however that he didn’t need to read the words to at all. The message just flowed from his heart as he sang with great passion.
I’ve learned the words to many songs over the years myself but, there are only a handful that I could sing all the way through today. I even have trouble remembering words written by my own hand.
Some time ago I decided to write music to some of my favorite passages of Scripture. The power of music has etched those lyrics into memory and I can now recite those passages by heart because of the association I have with a melody.
One passage that many people know the reference to is John 3:16. Not everyone knows what that passage says but, seeing it repeatedly has made the chapter and verse stick in our memory. The verses surrounding this popular anchor are really marvelous. They speak of God’s plan to rescue us from evil, not to judge us. Ask God to help you understand the depths of the 3rd chapter of John verses 1 through 21 (or just keep reading!) and read it for yourself.
Know that you are loved.
John 3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
