We were fortunate to have a Boys Club that was within walking distance of our home. They had a lot of great things for us to do there and every so often we’d be offered the opportunity to go on a field trip.
One year we went to the Statue of Liberty together. While on the island, my brother and I were separated from the group we were with. I remember the desperate feeling of being lost watching one of the ferries departing and wondering what to do. We were ultimately found just minutes later to our great relief and joy.
We were lost before we realized it. It was in the moment that we knew we had been separated that we were desperate to be saved. Sometimes our hearts wander from God and before we know it we moved so far away that we wonder why God has left us.
God is so good that He initiated the rescue while we were still in our sin (separated from Him). Unfortunately, many people have to “hit bottom” before they’ll look for the Savior. Even then, some blame God for their situation and shun Him and the gift of life He offers.
Having been one who strayed further from God than I will ever know, I find my heart yearning for those that are suffering in the lonely place of isolation from God to be found in Him. To quote Sly and the Family Stone, “I am no better, and neither are you, we’re all the same, whatever we do.” Be reconciled to God and an ambassador of freedom.
Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
