Stick with it

I was listening to a book on CD yesterday in the car and found that I had to “rewind” the track I was on because my thoughts went on a journey all their own. The reason I went back over the chapter was because when my thoughts returned to what was being said I wondered how the author had reached that conclusion.

Unfortunately, my wife is subject to my drifting attention all too often. I now have the courage to ask, “What did you just say? I missed that”. I never want her to doubt my love for her.

While I’m grateful to be aware of this “condition”, I long for the remedy. How do you stay focused on what’s going on right in front of you? What is it in us or around us that pulls us away? I think it comes down to what we treasure.

One of the most thought provoking statements I’ve read this morning is how the love Jesus has for us is like the love the Father has for Jesus. Is that not one of the greatest treasures we can ever behold?

I suppose if you don’t treasure Jesus you wouldn’t treasure His love for you but, I do love Jesus for who He is and what He’s done. He calls us to remain in His love.

John 15:9 “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love.”
