In grammar school (that’s what we called elementary school in the “old” days), we received grades that ranged for Excellent to Poor. Somewhere in the middle was Good, but good never seemed good enough. While Fair and Poor where certainly worse than Good, it seemed like there was something mediocre about it.
There are so many good things in our lives that are overshadowed by inconveniences and full-fledged tragedies. We gaze at our problems and forget what we have at hand to address them head on. We very often don’t value what is truly good.
It’s no wonder that a statement like, “God is good” is handled so casually. It’s as if it’s OK to call the Most High, Almighty, Ruler of the Universe something that we don’t value very highly, “good”.
God is and always has been. He is far greater than our imaginations can fathom. His goodness can be considered the sum total of His attributes. Everything about Him is good. We have the privilege of knowing Him even as we are not so good. He is gracious and merciful. Thank God for His goodness.
1 Praise the Lord!
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!
His faithful love endures forever.
