It was August 1986 and we were expecting our first child. Ibel and I were both working and had decided that she would stay home to raise our children. We took a look at our income and expenses and wondered how we would make it on my meager income.
Then, we had to decide whether we would withhold our tithe to the church or give it in faith. Somehow, the thought came that we would be better off holding onto what by faith belonged to God. Instead, we acted in faith and gave with gratitude. As you can imagine, these 26 years later God has provided over and over again. But more importantly, we faced our fears in faith.
Someone recently said that the problems we don’t address, don’t go away. I’d add that the problems we face in faith, increase our faith and bring glory to God.
What strikes me as I write this is that we are often deceived into believing that our problems are bigger than our God. This is why it is so important to spend time with Him daily to know Him better. That is where our confidence lies.
God is pleased by our faith. It is in Him that will live and and move and have our being. Our biggest problem was solved in the death and resurrection of Jesus. That is where we were reconciled with God. Apart from Him we can do nothing. We can do all things through Him who gives us strength. Slay your giant.
