Beyond explanation

ImageLast night I got a call that the vehicle my son was driving wouldn’t start. It was pretty late and I felt myself getting a little aggravated with the situation. Nevertheless, I told him to wait for me to get there before abandoning the car or calling to have it towed. He thought it was a waste of time for me to come and diagnose the problem (knowing my limited mechanical expertise).

As I drove there, I prayed that I would love my son through this experience because He is God’s son. I knew my natural inclinations and attitude were not going to be helpful to anyone in this situation. I also prayed that we would be able to get the car started.

When I arrived I asked him to turn the key in an effort to see what the problem might be. The car started right up. He was not happy and drove away without a word. I praised and thanked God all the way home because the car started and there was limited interaction with him for me to screw up.

God is faithful and loving when we are not. He doesn’t change. His works among us are too numerous to count. While we would like to think we have everything under control, He is the One that holds all things together. A little bit of praise hardly makes sense when we consider who He is. Look beyond what you can see and trust Him.

Psalm 106:1-2

1 Praise the Lord!
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!
His faithful love endures forever.
2 Who can list the glorious miracles of the Lord?
Who can ever praise him enough?
