Some time ago I was thinking about the ups and downs of life and saw how an EKG reading is a pretty good picture of our experience. When a heart monitor “straight lines” it signifies the absence of activity in the heart. None of us likes the low points of life but, they’re simply a sign that we’re alive.
When I’m down I have a choice in how to respond. It used to be that getting “lit up” with alcohol or drugs was the obvious solution to my problems. That ended badly. In more recent times buying things I didn’t really need or eating food when I wasn’t hungry was the reflex response. We all have handled trouble in unhealthy ways.
Today I choose to run into the arms of God. He remembers us in our weakness and doesn’t discard or avoid us like so many people do. He is faithful. What He says, He does. In my moments of clarity it is easy to see that running to the One who is called Almighty is the only logical choice. But, logic really doesn’t enter into those situations where our emotions rule. Faith is believing what God has said and acting on it.
Love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind and all your strength. This is the greatest commandment. The second is like it, love your neighbor as yourself. Love is the answer.
Psalm 136:23 He remembered us in our weakness.
His faithful love endures forever.
