It’s amazing how fast important news travels on Facebook. 🙂 Before I knew it, multiple posts were authored describing how sad people were that Hostess is going out of business and therefore Twinkies won’t be available for consumption any longer. Then I heard that folks had bought of boxes of this delicacy and we selling them for outrageous prices on eBay. Sorry, but, I seem to remember learning somewhere along the line that this particular snack had to be one of the least healthy alternatives on the planet. And now we’re missing them and giving them a collector’s item status?
We’ve all learned lots of important lessons about our welfare over the course of our lives. You know, what to avoid and what to embrace. Some of us have been in recovery over issues of addiction and know that we cannot afford to go back to that hell (even though we may be tempted). This whole Twinkie thing got me thinking that there are memories/experiences we all have romanticized about even though they’re really no good for us at all.
When it comes to our spiritual lives we can’t afford to consume that sort of junk food and become anemic as a result. Jesus is the “Bread of Life” and promises supreme satisfaction as we feast on Him. Maybe this is a little too vague for you to grasp but, I’d like to encourage you to really think about what He’s claiming. Read the Gospel of John and notice all of the promises of life Jesus offers.
John 6:35 Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
