The eye of the beholder

We had a miniature pug named Wally when I was a teenager. My siblings and parents loved that dog (from what I remember). I was not as enamored. It had bulging eyes and snorted a lot. Even so, I was kind to the animal.

Before you go judging me for my insensitivity you should know that I was terrorized by a couple of dogs in my younger years. So, I just wasn’t inclined towards having them as pets. Today, we have cats and a dog. The kids and my wife wanted them so, because of my love for them, I made room in my heart (and house) for the pets.

Love is a choice we make. If you focus on the faults of others, chances are you’ll miss out on all of the wonderful things everyone else sees in them. I’m grateful for the love I’ve received despite my bad behavior.

Jesus died for you before you decided to love Him. God loves you because He is love. He shows grace by blessing us when we don’t deserve it. Be a lover.

Psalm 25:7 Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth.
Remember me in the light of your unfailing love,
for you are merciful, O Lord.
