The last time I was at the lake there were some kids taking stones from the shore and “skimming” them across the surface of the water. I looked for a few flat stones and tried my hand at it as well. What is it about this activity that I find so attractive?

We have skimmer for our pool that removes debris from the surface of the water. This process does not remove the leaves that have sunk to the floor of the pool.

We skim through books and magazines to see if we’d like to purchase them. Are we judging these writings superficially?

Remember the saying, “You can’t judge a book by its cover”? Doesn’t that usually refer to how we relate to people? How many times have you felt like no one understood you? This is where love is put to the test.

I’m starting to realize that these many years of seeking God have only skimmed the surface of who He really is. Wise men from the East had traveled a great distance to seek out the meaning of a heavenly sign. When they found the two-year-old Jesus, they worshiped Him. What was it about this child that was praise-worthy?

God’s thoughts are higher than our thoughts and His ways are higher than our ways. While we won’t be able to plumb the depths of His love we can still know His love personally. Give Him your life and receive His. Go deeper.

Matthew 2:9-11 After this interview the wise men went their way. And the star they had seen in the east guided them to Bethlehem. It went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
