At one point in my life I was able to meet a number of famous people. These were the folks we used to say had “made it”. It was exhilarating at first to lay eyes on movie and rock stars in person. As I got to know them, my elevated image was deflated. Very few of them were happy with their lives. Today, my heart goes out to them.
We often go to great lengths to look as good as we can. I just saw a photo of one superstar that had so much plastic surgery that they were barely recognizable. Many people often spend more time on beautifying their outward appearance to the neglect of their inner life. It is good to take care of the bodies we’ve been given, it is better to grow in love.
God sees through us. He’s looking for hearts that pursue Him and His righteousness. He is so gracious that He pursues us in whatever condition our heart may be in. He gives us new hearts.
1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
