Somewhere around my first year in Junior High School (7th grade) I became pretty interested in what others thought of me. There were many opportunities presented to me over the next 6 years (and even to this day) where I could choose what I knew was right or cave in to get their approval. I stole, smoked cigarettes, drank, took drugs, lied and damaged personal property because I was afraid to say, “No thanks”.
Today, it’s not the most popular thing in the world to be a devout Christian. But, I just couldn’t say “no thanks” to God’s offer of eternal life. It makes no sense to me to continue choosing to do things that harm myself or others because it would make me popular (for a very short period of time). I find it interesting that it says in the verse I’m sharing today that disobeying the LORD’s commands leads to a lack of prosperity. When I obey His command to love Him first and to love others as myself I know I’m on the right track.
God longs to lavish His love on you. But, He commands that you love Him in return. Run into His open arms.
2 Chronicles 24:20 Then the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood before the people and said, “This is what God says: Why do you disobey the Lord’s commands and keep yourselves from prospering? You have abandoned the Lord, and now he has abandoned you!”
