It’s personal

We’ve had our share of great moments with our kids. From musical performances to family gatherings and sports events, there seem to be too many to mention.

I remember a soccer tournament where our team was looking pretty dejected towards the end of the game. Our son seemed to have optimism like no one else on the field and led his team to win the game in overtime.

As you can tell, it was one moment that really stands out for me over the years. The joy he had at the end of the game was different than mine. He was thrilled that they won the game and that he could play a part in it. I was thrilled that my son had risen above his circumstance to overcome what looked to many as a hopeless situation.

There are other times where my heart is troubled and it seems like nothing anyone could say or do was very helpful. One example might be after the death of a loved one. I’m reminded of the spiritual that sang, “Nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen, nobody knows but Jesus.”

I take great comfort in knowing that no matter what I’m going through, God is near and understands like no one else can. So, I’ll be singing songs of joy this morning at church and have learned to turn my cares over to Him because He cares for me. My biggest problem was taken care of at the cross of Jesus and it’s also there that I find my deepest joy for being made whole by the blood He shed. You are not alone.

Proverbs 14:10 Each heart knows its own bitterness,
and no one else can fully share its joy.
