A promise kept

ImageMy doctor tells me that a 30 minute walk everyday will make a tremendous difference in my physical health. So, a friend of mine used to arrive at my house at 5:00 a.m. to walk the neighborhood with me. I was always sure to be up and ready to go because I knew that he would keep his promise to be there. That promise that we made to each other kept us walking through all kinds of weather. The older we get the more we need to take care of our bodies, our loved ones and the call on our lives.

A movement had sprung up named Promise Keepers that reminded men of the importance of keeping the promises they had made to their spouses and children. The central message was a call to live for the ultimate Promise Keeper and imitate Him in the way we lived our lives. To this day, I’m impacted by the profound lessons taught through that ministry.

God has made many promises to you and I. You can find books and websites that list the many verses that demonstrate His commitment to us. Everyone one of His promises was kept by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. We need to learn how to receive those promises by faith.

When we say yes to Him, God receives the glory that He is worthy of. He is so good that when we fail Him, He is gracious in receiving us back as we say yes again and return to Him. Keep your promises.

2 Corinthians 1:20 For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.
